Whistler has been a popular skiing destination since the early 1960s when a group of Vancouverites led by Franz Wilhelmsen started developing a ski resort on what was then known as “London Mountain.”
Especially after the 2010 Olympics, the whole world knows Whistler as a prime destination for skiing and much more.
If you are looking for a day of guided skiing in Whistler, please be sure to give Alan a call to make arrangements.
There are many different styles of skiing. Let’s look at the ones that the Whistler area features:
All of our properties in Whistler are TRUE ski-in ski-out. This means that you can strap on your skis right at the door and go, and you can ski right home. You don’t have to walk to the lift, and you don’t need to bother with finding a parking spot for your vehicle.
Whistler Blackcomb offers over 8,100 acres of snow-covered slopes, 16 alpine bowls, and three glaciers. 37 lifts (including the Peak to Peak Gondola) take you to any of the over 200 runs.
Mixed in with the skiers on the lift you will see the colourful snowboarders heading up the hill. Snowboarding is enjoying ever-increasing popularity and is not a sport only for the “young folks” anymore. If you have never tried it, your visit to Whistler is the perfect time to take a board for a spin.
One of the highlights of watching the Olympic Games was watching the freestyle skiers and snowboarders show their tricks. Whistler Blackcomb features five terrain parks that offer challenges for every skill level. These parks are graded depending on the size of the features from small (s) to extra large (XL).
Don’t miss the Fire and Ice show where Whistler’s finest freestyle stars show their newest tricks.
If you want to take your ski experience to the next level and beyond the groomed trails, Catskiing is a great adventure! Hop on the special vehicle of our friends from Powder Mountain Catskiing and discover fresh powder on the undisturbed slopes around Whistler.
Those of you who dream of skiing above the clouds on fresh, undisturbed slopes can book a day of heliskiing and enjoy a day full of adventure high above everyone else.
If you are more down to earth and are looking for a great workout, Whistler’s many Nordic skiing venues might be the ticket for you. Multiple venues offer experiences from beginner to Olympic level tracks. You can find Biathlon facilities as well as dog-friendly paths. Every year there are many events where Nordic skiing friends meet.
There are many unmarked and unmaintained back country ski trails in Whistler. This form of skiing requires special skills, equipment and training. Please make sure you stay safe on your adventure. For more information, you can go to whistlerblackcomb.com/mountain-info/backcountry.
Fortunately, people with disabilities can also enjoy skiing in Whistler. The Whistler Adaptive Sports Program offers programs from a special ski school to paralympic-style ski racing.
Going to Whistler for the holidays is one of the most amazing experiences you can have. World class skiing, snowboarding and stunning views make Whistler the best place on earth for thousands of visitors every year.
Of course, most of these visitors come here to ski and snowboard. But Whistler has a lot more to offer for those times when you don’t want to hit the slopes.
Especially during the holidays, Whistler comes to life with many events. Here are ten suggestions for you to consider:

As of February 21, we have received no less than 3.5 feet or 109 cm of fresh, clean snow.
